Greetings fellow Mavericks,
A quick reminder about our Q&A webinar on March 5 & 6 on tech privacy and security online scheduled at 2pm NYC timezone.
Here’s the joining link: https://calendar.google.com/calendar/event?action=TEMPLATE&tmeid=NXQ3czk3czgwdG5pcDJkaTNxMDM4YWxkMXYgdXR6YXdhdGNoQG0&tmsrc=utzawatch%40gmail.com
In case you missed the last newsletter, we recently put out the call to several of our Mavericks members to share some practical tips in the form of tutorials / step-by-step walkthroughs and below are the first materials they put together for you to watch (and re-watch) as needed.
Below is the material they prepared.
Find out how to
- Encrypt your files for cloud storage in regular services like Dropbox – so no one can see your data and you don’t even need to pay for a new account at another cloud service; Check the Digital Signature of newly installed executable files to ensure that they come from a trusted, non-hacked source. Secure your passwords with PasswordSafe.
- De-google your phone in a simple step-by-step process that avoids the inconvenience and hassle of trying to do it “cold turkey.” Your phone is the greatest device for eavesdropping ever created. Having a phone that doesn’t spy on you is no longer a nice-to-have. It’s essential to those who still value freedom.
- How to regain control over your assets and avoid being canceled for having a contrarian opinion. Learn which alternative payment systems are available that are more private than PayPal or similar platforms.
- Alternative operating systems for Mac and Windows. Instead of having all your data sent directly back to the big tech/ big brother industry, you can prevent them from seeing anything you are doing while avoiding their “system updates” which force yet newer and better spyware onto you with each iteration.
For simplicity we stitched together videos from each member at the links below. Have a look and we’ll address any questions in the upcoming live webinar.
This is an ongoing project and we will continue to discuss and evolve how you can reduce your overall risks online. Big thanks to the members who contributed – you know who you are… If anyone wishes to contribute, please reach out to Andrew, Tain or Denisa.
Regards,
Tain
